1.  Choosing A Bridal Party Is Critical

While choosing your bridal party is something you do well before the wedding day, these choices can go a long way in reducing your stress.  During times of stress it's critical to have a great support system.  When it comes to your bridal party it's important to understand that you are not obligated to ask anyone.  You want to choose people that are genuinely supportive, helpful, and reliable.

Before asking anyone to be part of your bridal party, you should first determine your expectations.  When you approach potential bridal party selections make sure you clearly communicate these expectations.  Once you've asked someone to be part of the bridal party and communicated your expectations, allow them a couple of days to think it over.  You want to give them time to make sure they are committed to your expectations and be sure to let them know that there will be no hard feelings if they don't want to participate.

2.  Have A Great Wedding Day Timeline

When creating your wedding day timeline it's critical to stay true to yourself and understand that essentially every decision will impact it.  For instance, if you decide to have a pre-ceremony first look it will impact the time you need to be in your wedding dress and ready to go.  It will also have an impact on your wedding photography time frames.

When making your timeline remember that many things will take longer than anticipated - for example, the "getting ready" portion of the day.  It's very common for hair and makeup to take a little longer than expected to ensure they are perfect.  Be sure to build a little extra time throughout your timeline to account for these unforeseen delays.  This won't make you feel so pressured for time knowing you have buffers built in.

3.  Expect Something To Go Wrong

Weddings have a lot of moving parts.  There are a lot of details and a lot of people that play a part in the success of your wedding.  It's very rare that any wedding goes off without some sort of hitch.  The best thing you can do is expect something to go wrong and even more importantly, accept it.  Your wedding will still be amazing!

We once photographed a wedding where the groom became so ill the ceremony location had to be changed an hour before it started and he couldn't attend the reception.  Just hearing a situation like this probably sends shivers down your spine.  While this was a very challenging situation and far from ideal, it all worked out in the end.

4.  Be Very Cautious When It Comes To DIY

A great way to save money on your wedding budget is to incorporate some DIY options.  However, it has also been a source of great regret for many couples.  They didn't realize how much of a time investment it would be to accomplish their DIY projects - especially the setting up and taking down of decorations.

Whether you want or need to DIY portions of your wedding, I would strongly recommend you DIY details that can be completed prior to the wedding day.  If this is unavoidable, then place someone you trust to be in charge of these details.  Many brides admitted delegating the decorations to a reliable friend or family member, but they couldn't help but be involved to ensure it was perfect.  While this is perfectly understandable, it defeats the purpose.  Your wedding day is long and hectic.  We are looking for ways to help you relax and reduce your stress.

5.  Be Selfish & Assertive

It's rarely considered acceptable to be selfish, however, if there is one day when it's acceptable it's your wedding day.  This one day you get to have everything as you want it, so don't be afraid to be selfish and assertive.  You can do this without being a bridezilla - It's all in how you communicate your wishes.  Being assertive doesn't mean you have to yell and scream to make your point, but it does mean it's okay to be clear and direct.

6.  Choose A Great "Go To" Person

Every bride needs a great "go to" person.  Someone who is reliable and trustworthy.  This person is there to handle your "dirty work" so to speak.  If you need something communicated to your wedding professionals or you need someone to hold your bouquet they are there to handle it.  Your go to person will definitely give you some peace of mind and help you to enjoy your special day.

7.  Make Sure Your "Go To" Person Has A List Of Suppliers/Professionals

Your wedding day has arrived and everything has been set in motion.  The day can feel like a blur!  Prior to the wedding day you are going to want to make sure you make a comprehensive list of all your vendors and wedding professionals - florist, officiant, wedding photographer, DJ, reception venue, videographer, etc.  Write down their name, phone number, expected time of arrival, and what they are providing or delivering.  If any issues or questions arise your go to person will can easily get in touch with the necessary people.

8.  Prepare For The Weather

If you are having an outdoor wedding it will be imperative to sit down with your wedding venue and discuss your "Plan B" just in case bad weather strikes.  Knowing you have a back-up plan will also give you peace of mind and allow you to relax.

Additionally, make sure you're prepared for the weather.  Whether it's raining, snowing, hot, or cold make sure you have the appropriate attire and/or accessories to deal with the elements.

Professional Bonus Tips!

Comfortable Shoes

One detail many brides overlook is their wedding shoes.  Whatever shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day, make sure you wear them around  your house to break them in.  This could save you from a lot of discomfort.  If you're going to be wearing shoes with a heel, be sure to bring along a pair of comfortable flats too.  If your feet start to develop blisters or they aren't comfortable for dancing you'll at least have an option.

Hydrate

I can't stress enough how important it is to stay properly hydrated.  2-3 days before the wedding drink lots of water!  The days surrounding your wedding will probably be irregular at best.  Your appetite might be off or your schedule might be so busy you find your normal eating schedule has changed.  Being hydrated will help reduce the effects during these crazy times.  Not only will it help to make you feel better, but it will ensure you have beautiful, glowing skin too!

Don't Forget Some White Chalk

Having some white chalk on hand can be a real life saver.  Let's say you get your dress a little dirty - just rub some white chalk on the soiled area and no one will be the wiser!
